To preserve the natural balance in South Tyrol’s forests, the picking of mushrooms is regulated by provincial law.
In general, the following rules apply:
- mushrooms may only be picked for your own consumption – but only outside of protected areas (nature parks, habitats, natural monuments, Natura-2000 areas) and not on private land with prohibition signs.
- Mushrooms may only be picked on even days between 7 am and 7 pm.
- People who are resident in the municipality may collect up to 2 kg of mushrooms per person per day.
- People who are not resident in the municipality may collect up to 1 kg of mushrooms per person per day.
- Mushrooms must be roughly cleaned where they are found and transported in a solid, open and well-ventilated container.
- The use of rakes or sticks is forbidden.
- People who are not resident in the municipality must pay a fee per person per day to collect mushrooms:
- When buying the mushroom licence in the tourist offices of the Ahrntal valley and in the online shop of the Ahrntal holiday region: € 10.00
