To preserve the natural balance in South Tyrol’s forests, the picking of mushrooms is regulated by provincial law.

In general, the following rules apply:

  • mushrooms may only be picked for your own consumption – but only outside of protected areas (nature parks, habitats, natural monuments, Natura-2000 areas) and not on private land with prohibition signs.
  • Mushrooms may only be picked on even days between 7 am and 7 pm.
  • People who are resident in the municipality may collect up to 2 kg of mushrooms per person per day.
  • People who are not resident in the municipality may collect up to 1 kg of mushrooms per person per day.
  • Mushrooms must be roughly cleaned where they are found and transported in a solid, open and well-ventilated container.
  • The use of rakes or sticks is forbidden.

  • People who are not resident in the municipality must pay a fee per person per day to collect mushrooms:
  • When buying the mushroom licence in the tourist offices of the Ahrntal valley and in the online shop of the Ahrntal holiday region:  € 10.00

  • To do so, please contact us directly:
    Ahrntal Tourist Information Association: +39 0474 671136 / info@ahrntal.it
    Sand in Taufers Tourist Information Association: +39 0474 678076 / info@taufers.com

  • Failure to comply with these rules may result in an administrative penalty of between €34 and €161 and the confiscation of all mushrooms picked.
