Sled, luge, baby bobsled, a plastic bag, or many more extravagant conveyances: for the magnificent amusement of racing down snow-covered paths, hillsides, ski slopes, and tracks on one’s behind, the human species has become exceptionally creative.
Anyone who wants to head to the heights will do best to start at the top, and in the Ahrntal Valley and Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures with its villages, those ready to sled will find the absolutely finest conditions for it. Because with its location on the main ridge of the Alps, it is among the areas of South Tyrol-Südtirol most certain to have snow, which guarantees sledding fun every winter for every taste, from the little hill to a good downward slide to a demonic descent for the especially daring.
There are sled-friendly Alpine refuges and sled rentals practically everywhere. A few examples: for friends of nature with the family along, there is a lighted sledding trail in Weißenbach/Rio Bianco. The 80 meter (260 foot) change in elevation up to the Malga Busegge-Busegge Alm can be comfortably managed with a half hour hike through snow-covered woods. More demanding, though, is the sledding trail from the Speikboden to Rio Bianco. A two hour climb is rewarded with a 7 km (4.5 mile) long descent. And those who are not so enthusiastic about hiking uphill take the cablecar Speikboden and will love the long descent starting from the mountain terminal on the Speikboden.
Easier also at the Klausberg, where you can take the cable car up to the start of the 5 km (3 mile) long sled run and then indulge in the enjoyment of the “après sled” immediately afterward. Incidentally, that is also the location of the Klausberg Flitzer, Italy’s longest Alpine roller coaster!
Put the helmet on and with shrieks of delight on the inner tube, and let the fun begin! The conveyor belt and flood lights at the snow&fun familypark tamarix guarantee long-lasting sliding fun for the entire family! o conveyor belts and snow castle at the Family-Funpark Speikboden.
And whoever wants to absolutely breathe in nature will seek out one of the numerous sled runs where it is necessary to first hike up into the heights before the fast fun begins!
