A Love for Cheese
On the third weekend of March, Sand in Taufers once again becomes a cheese paradise. For three days, cheese in all its varieties is tasted, enjoyed, and sold in the main town of the Ahrntal. The love for cheese and the culinary delights make this festival a must-attend event for connoisseurs and food lovers.
The Cheese Festival in Sand in Taufers can proudly count itself among the pioneers and now established fixtures of regional gourmet events.
A multitude of exhibitors from across Europe consistently make the event a truly special experience: alongside South Tyrolean local champions, cooperatively organized dairies are just as present as the diverse alpine and farm dairies. But the Cheese Festival has long since grown beyond South Tyrol, with numerous Italian and international cheese producers having already confirmed their participation.
But the organizers of the Cheese Festival have even more to offer: the Cooking Arena, for example, is always very popular with visitors. Renowned chefs and young talents from South Tyrol's culinary scene take to the stoves.
Another fixed component of the event is the "Taste Experiences." On all three days of the event, a high-quality and diverse tasting program, unparalleled elsewhere, is offered in collaboration with Slow Food. High-caliber speakers from all over Europe share their knowledge with visitors during the nearly hour-long guided sessions.
But the culinary delights don't stop there. Numerous local restaurants offer special "Specialty Days" in honor of the Cheese Festival. All participating eateries will feature delicious cheese dishes on their menus.
Even the youngest guests get their money's worth at the festival. They can get hands-on and produce everything themselves, from fresh cheese and mozzarella to Graukäse (grey cheese) and chocolate, all under the expert guidance of the producers. For kindergartens and schools, a specially tailored and high-quality educational program is offered on the first day of the event, which interested groups and classes can register for.
